DOUBLE FLUTE

The research on the DOUBLE FLUTE, carried out by me in these years with the collaboration of the maker Francesco Li Virghi, was articulated on three different fronts: the iconographic investigation, interpretable medieval literature, the comparison with all the double instruments of the oral tradition.

This led to the creation of 2 different medieval instruments:

DOUBLE FLUTE ARS ANTIQUA
We mean the instrument capable of playing by fourth and fifth, not too differentiating the line of Tenor with the Duplum, indeed mixing them and making them merged and unrecognizable.

DOUBLE FLUTE ARS NOVA
We mean an instrument capable of playing the two differentiated lines: the Tenor and an effective and recognizable Cantus (or Superius).
